This houseboat Sam and his team have built changes the whole ethos of living on a houseboat. Incorporating little reminders in the design that it is indeed a boat but far removed from habitable Thames barges of yesteryear, raising the bar for floating homes.

Design and build of 2 modern houseboats

Sam has designed and built, with his partner - entrepreneur Rob Edsell, a unique pair of houseboats. Starting with a steel hull and adding a steel frame to support another floor above. The 2 houseboats are mirror images of each other and are designed to face each other in the harbour- they have 4 bedrooms each with an open-plan living/dining/kitchen area upstairs and can be rented individually or together creating a large seafront property that can sleep 16+. Islay and Eleuthera are moored in Bembridge on the Isle of Wight and available to rent from 2021. http://www.bembridgehouseboats.com

Steel pulley and cog system with detachable oak trays

Not so dumb, this creation was commissioned for an old Mill house, with all the working wheels still in the house it seemed apt to create a solution to the narrow staircase by use of a dumb waiter to the mezzanine dining floor above the kitchen. In steel and oak with removeable trays and a simple pulley system to move it up and down.

Sam was asked to make a console table by a client who had a large fallen tree on his land.
The piece was personalised by adding an old map detail of the estate where the tree fell, inlaid in the centre drawer.

Title: Milland Stores and Cafe

Local Community Design Project

Sam was asked to design his Local Community Village Shop. The “Brief” was a new building on a site next to the village hall that was in-keeping with the surrounding architecture but with a modern edge. Sam designed the building with high level windows that would let light flood into the building but keep the wall space free for display shelves. Sam also designed and made all the shop furniture from reclaimed Elm. All the materials used in the build were from local businesses. The shop and cafe opened in December 2011 and is proving very popular with its community.

A Lymington Slipway built in the 50’s in . An overhaul of the deck and interior fit-out. Previous owners include the artist Gerald Laing, and the author and illustrator Mairi Hedderwick, who published a book on her adventures on Anassa entitled “Sea Change”.

Bar, Restaurant and Private Members Club in Soho, London.

The leather padded entrance, with window revealing the DJ, leads to the downstairs bar, with low tables lit from inside and short mushroom stools and sofas. 
Upstairs is the restaurant, more light and spacious with large windows overlooking Soho life and a glass waterfall descending to the ground floor.
The top floor is the members bar and is, again, a very different feel from the floor below. Large leather chairs and chesterfield style sofas with a contemporary lean in sumptuous reds and oranges.
The venues interior can be seen in Sony Playstations “The Getaway”.

Title: The Lineout

A 27 foot bronze sculpture of a rugby line-out at Twickenham Stadium.

By the artist, Gerald Laing, this sculpture stands proud outside the South Stand development at Twickenham Stadium. Sam assisted his father in the sculptural process and his brother cast the figures in bronze at his foundry in Scotland, Black Isle Bronze.

Bronze and stainless steel sculptural elements to a major new building on Piccadilly.

In conjunction with Black Isle Bronze, Sam was responsible for the fabrication and installation of the stainless steel capitals as shown. Also the modelling of patterns for the bronze capitals and decorative detail on the facade.

A restaurant owned by Chef Aldo Zilli in Covent Garden, London.

Sam has also designed 4 other restaurants for Aldo Zilli.
ZILLI FISH in Brewer St, Soho and The Zilli Deli Cafe, ZILLI Notting Hill, And ZILLI BAR in Soho.

Upstairs the restaurant is a sea of blue suede chairs designed by Sam, a trademark in Zilli restaurants. The sweeping staircase flows past sculptural glass jellyfish lighting, down to the Pizza restaurant. The end wall is stacked high with logs for the wood fired Pizza oven and the whole length of the restaurant, crimson leather seating clings to the wall.

An oak framed four bedroom house in West Sussex.

Sunken into the hill and surrounded by trees this house nestles comfortably into its surroundings. Again natural materials dominate; chunky oak beams, Italian limestone flooring, oak doors, windows and cladding, all creating a calm living area. The prominent feature of the main room is the wall of glass (that completely opens up), giving a panoramic, uninterupted view of the garden and sky.
